A Questionable Motive?

What do you do if you have a friend that has ignored all attempts to keep in touch (facebook, email) who suddenly contacts you b/c they are going to be in the area & were wondering if they could stay w/ you for a few days?

Do you take that as a sign they want to keep in touch once again & they've just been busy? Do you mention their lack of communication until now? Do you think maybe they are just trying to get a free place to stay for a few days? What's your take?

  1. That's a difficult one. We may never really know what are their true motives. I admit that I've wanted to keep in touch with people, but don't have the time or the energy. I guess I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

As for them staying with you, I think that you need to think about your family & whether your family is up to having guests for a few days. Your family time is precious, especially when the family is involved in vocational ministry.

I'll be praying that God gives you wisdom & discernment.

  2. I am all into restoring relationships. I am also into speaking the truth in love especially to my friends. I think that sending a clear message of your disappointment of lack of connection with her is valid. Asking her clearly what she is willing to give to the relationship or what her expectations of the relationship are. Sometimes we are on different pages and just need to discuss our desires and to listen to the other person's perspective.
    Hope that helps.

  3. Pray about it. Maybe you will have a great time with them there. We have some missionary friends in Chile. They say come. We can't entertain you or feed you, but you're welcome to stay because there are beds.

  4. I know that I am really really bad at correspondance but love to visit with people in person. In fact, next month I'm flying cross country to visit a friend I haven't seen in 16 years, who I've only emailed a handful of times, and I can't wait. Maybe youre friend is like me. I say have them over, and if you feel they have used you then you know to let that friendship go by the wayside.
