House Tour -Storage Room

Welcome to my basement!

As you descend the stairs you have a direct view of the furnace since it seems they decided not to put a door on that area.  I was not a fan of that view, so I placed our photo screen in front of the furnace instead.  I never seem to be able to find a good place for the photo screen, so I was really happy to have found one!

At the bottom of the stairs directly to your left is the storage room.  It's quite a bit smaller than our storage room in PEI was, & I have gotten rid of lots of things.  It looks scary, but it's organized!
We put the deep freeze down here to free up space in the garage for PChad to work on his projects.  We also store our Christmas decorations, extra dining chairs, camping stuff, board games, & my collection of vintage Fisher Price among other things in here.

I love my storage racks.  Without them this room would be hopeless!  I made a curly-q out of the racks, so you can walk into the center area & access more of the shelves without them taking up all of the outside walls!

Playing Old School

I was looking through my unfinished, unpublished posts, & found this one from last January…

**************************************************************************

IMG_0850 It was a quiet day so PChad decided to bring the old Atari out of storage & hook it up for the kids.

IMG_0851 It took a bit of finagling, but we got it working.  The power switch has always been touchy!

IMG_0852 Asher enjoyed it for awhile, but he said the games were boring!

IMG_0853 Chancery just likes to watch…

A Little Conference Fun

I was on the planning team for my conference in Toronto, & one of my duties, along with one of the other team members, was to come up with the game.  We decided on group photo challenges, & here are a few of the results!

2014-09-23 16.49.40 “Break the Stereotypes”

Teams had to come up with a photo of a person breaking free of the other teammates.

We had a really great time of fun & fellowship, along with some great messages from our speaker Ruth Vander Zee.

Church Picnic 2013

July First was the Annual Church Picnic, & we had pretty nice weather, not too many bugs, & lots of fun!

IMG_9787

Asher’s Sunday School class had a potato sack race.  The instructions were, “Hop to the end, hop around the can & come back.”

IMG_9792

As you can see, Asher had some difficulty with what he was supposed to do…

IMG_9802

Chancery’s Sunday School class had 2 teams which filled up a cup, ran it down the field & tried to fill their bucket first.

IMG_9803

Chancery tried hard, but her teammates were not all that concerned about winning…

IMG_9804

There was a bit of confusion every time the cup was passed to the next person, but the kids all had fun.

During the last part of the race, Chancery ran into another kid, & her cup of water got all over her shirt.  She was pretty upset about it, but then they handed out the prizes, & she got some princess hairclips.  Princess hairclips make everything better!

After lunch it was time for the adult games!

We had to run down the field, put on a scuba mask, lifejacket & flippers, then run back.  We also had 2 buckets which we had to walk down the field with 2 other team members moving the buckets for us to take our next step in.

The last part of the challenge was to stack 6 straw bales into a tower & get all your team members back across the line while your tower was still standing.

Once again, the games were a lot of fun, & it was great to see all the teams getting so into it!

Treasure Hunt

Friday was my first foray into entertaining 4 kids on my own.  I’m not one of those who thinks throwing a huge kids’ birthday party sounds fun, so I like to keep it small & simple.  Have a few kids over for a sleepover, & cake & call it good.  I even served Lucky Charms in the morning!

Since PChad was not yet home from his trip, I decided to just give Asher 1 gift from us, but to make it something the kids could play with together if they so chose.  I figured I should make a bit more of a to do about it since Asher would be getting a small gift from Jack & a smallish gift from me, & I wanted to make sure to kill some time as well.

So, I told Asher that he needed to check the dryer for me.  He often unloads clothes from the dryer for me, so he figured I was sending him to do a chore, instead he found this…

And, as planned, the boys went outside (despite the rain), & played for an hour ‘til dinnertime.  I call that a success!

Comedienne

New Years Day we went to visit Mr Harrie & Miss Geesje’s farm.  It was out of the ordinary since PChad actually got to come with us.  So, the kids showed him around the barn a bit, the calves sucked on their fingers, & we saw the cats!  I think Chancery could sit in the piles of straw petting the cats all day.

It was fairly cold, so after a bit we went into the house for coffee time & olliebollen, a traditional Dutch New Year’s treat.  We ended up playing Qwirkle.  The kids caught on fairly quickly & the game was afoot!

Chancery was looking at her tiles, then said, “Do you know why the starburst got out of the game?”

Miss Geesje: “No, why did it?”

Chancery: “Because it had the most points!”

I’m not sure if Chancery understood the double meaning & why her joke worked, especially since she followed it up with several jokes that did not work, hoping for the same reaction from us, but we were quite impressed with her joke!

Oh Mr. Mailman!

When we were on our trip in Newfoundland, Asher left his Nintendo DS cord at one of the cottages we had stayed in.  When I called the place to ask if they could ship it to us, they informed me that it would cost about $20 to ship & advised me to just get a new cord.  So, I went on eBay & ordered a new cord, but since it was being sent from the States, it had to clear customs.  After about 2 weeks without a cord, Asher wrote this note to the mailman…

“Mum ordered a DS cord (Nintendo DS cord)  Pleeeeeeease can we have it?  -Asher and Mum-  (What’s your name anyway???)”

Freddie Mercury, as an Angry Bird, on a bicycle?  Can it get any better?  My kids don't think so!

Winter Investment

Since the weather’s still keeping us indoors, we had to invest in one of these to keep us active…

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!
