Sidewalk Chalk

I gave the kids some sidewalk chalk & sent them outside, on a nice sunny day.  Not long after, Asher asked me to come out & see what he’d drawn with it.

IMG_6001Well, his ‘drawings’ ended up being a whole bunch of math problems…

…with a few swingsets thrown in as well.

I think he’s ready for school.

Concentration

The kids were playing in the pool the other day, & Asher told Chancery he was going to ask me for more juice.  He got to the patio door, but then got distracted by his mad skillz…

“It’s like a band.”

Chancery: “Yes, Asher?”

IMG_6182

Asher: “I was just wondering if you were planning on hitting me with that hammer.”

IMG_6183

Chancery: “Well the thought had crossed my mind…”

IMG_6185

Asher: “Then I guess I’ll sit as far away from you as I can.”

IMG_6184

Chancery: “But I do like you Asher, & I wish you’d sit by me!”

IMG_6188

Asher: “See, Mummy, we can get along from time to time!”

Engagement Photos

No one just goes to Sears for an engagement portrait anymore.  These days it’s all about having an old truck in the photo, or standing in front of a dilapidated barn.  When’s the last time you’ve seen a baby portrait that didn’t have at least one photo of them in an old washtub?

I shudder to think what kind of photos will be the norm when my kids get married.  Perhaps they’ll “go retro” & just stand in front of the church!  Without any old vehicles!  Or pets!  Or props of any kind!

I’m not saying these other photos aren’t interesting to look at, but  they just seem to be getting more & more out there!  Take a look at this couple’s photo shoot

Three.Years.Old!

We celebrated Chancery’s birthday  when PChad’s parents were here.  We were a day late celebrating since on her actual birthday PChad was a t a retreat  in the morning, & performed a wedding in the afternoon.

IMG_6144

Chancery was excited about the cake, & the presents, but she kept telling everyone, “It’s my birthday, but I don’t get any cake or presents.”

IMG_6145

Don’t worry though, we made up for it!

IMG_6154

When she opened her dollhouse from Grandpa & Grandma, she was so excited, but unsure as to what was actually inside!

IMG_6153

After the opening, there’s always the assembly stage, & she waited rather patiently for her scooter to get put together.

She has caught on pretty quick that she’s three now, & holds up the appropriate number of fingers when asked.  She’s growing up so fast!  Now we just need to figure out the potty training thing…

Breakfast With Grandpa & Grandma

One of the activities we always try to do when we have visitors, is have breakfast at the Preserve Company.  So, we headed out there a few weeks ago with PChad’s parents!

IMG_6107

We always start off with a bit o’ the Irish…

IMG_6109

Grandpa & Grandma got coerced into it too!

IMG_6108

A mere 4 feet further along the path, we are stopped once again for a “photo on the rock”!

IMG_6114

After breakfast, we usually take a walk around the grounds to walk off some of the delicious food we’ve consumed!

IMG_6117

The kids like talking to the sheep, but they don’t seem too interested in saying hello to the kids!

IMG_6118

Chancery saw a ‘kitty’ & she had to pet it.  She claimed that it was “pokey”…

IMG_6122

Asher & Grandpa rounded out their morning by spending some time swinging in the hammock.

We once again had a great time & the weather was perfect for a leisurely stroll around the gardens.

Big “Helpers”

I had a few checks to deposit at the bank today.  Going to the bank is not at the top of my “Fun Things To Do With Kids” list.  There’s no drive through, so I have to unload the kids, & bring them with me.  The kids like to go to the tellers & ask for stickers & lollipops, but the lines are usually quite long.  I often go when the actual bank isn’t open, doing what I need to do at the ATMs.

This morning while I was in the midst of entering all the check info, I’d gotten to the point where it asks, “Would you like to do another transaction?”  Asher kept asking if he could push the buttons, & I kept telling him that he could not.  Despite my warnings, he reached out & hit the “Cancel” button, returning my card to me, & cancelling all the info I’d just entered.

So, I started at the beginning again…

Next stop, the grocery store.  I wonder if I can get out of there in under two hours?

Asher: “Here I am, I’m ready for pictures too.”

IMG_6162

Chancery: “Did you bring a toy like me, Asher?”

IMG_6164

Asher: “Yes, in fact, I brought a whole box full of toys!”

IMG_6163

Chancery: “I’m so glad you came to join me, Asher!”

Reading Buddies

Asher had a friend over a few months ago, & true to his nature, Asher didn’t want to play anything.  Once Jack had tried out all of Asher’s toys, he went to find what Asher was up to.  Jack tried to convince Asher to play Lego, marble tracks, & trains, all to no avail.  Finally he gave up & joined Asher reading.

Strawberries

IMG_6006
A few weeks ago the kids & I headed out on a berry picking adventure.  I was more interested in the experience for the kids than I was in getting a lot of berries, & it’s a good thing that was my aim!
IMG_6004
I had instructed Asher to only pick red berries.  Then I had to tell him all the colours to leave in the field, “Leave the green, white & pink berries because they aren’t ready yet.  Only pick the bright red berries because they are the best!”
IMG_6005
Asher followed all the instructions with a question, “What if I find a black strawberry?”

IMG_6009
For every 3 strawberries I picked, Chancery stole 2 out of the bucket.  It’s a good thing they didn’t weigh her before & after!

IMG_6008
We had a great time on our berry picking adventure, & we even brought a few home for Daddy!  Maybe next year we’ll get enough to make a pie!

The Right Foot

We’re busy celebrating birthdays, hanging out with the Grandparents, & trying to capture the elusive warm, summer days.  It’s a busy time, but a good busy…

This ought to help get your week off to a great start!

Chancery: “Hooray!  I am so excited about that!”

IMG_6138

Asher: “I love you, Chancery, and I bet we’ll have a wonderful day!”

A Beach Day! (Finally!!!)

We’ve been having a lot of cloudy, chilly days this summer.  IN fact, one could hardly say we’ve had summer at all yet.  All through June I kept thinking July would be nice.  When that didn’t happen, I consoled myself by thinking surely August will be warm & sunny!

Alas, it seems that we’ll only get a handful of nice days this year.  I think we’ve made it out to the beach maybe 5 times so far.  It’s really dreadful.  Last week we had a somewhat decent day, & since PChad’s parents are here, we thought we’d head to the beach to show them what fun it is!

IMG_6100

The kids spent nearly all their time playing in the sand, far from the surf.

IMG_6104

The water was really cold, & there was a chilly wind as well.

IMG_6105

The pictures make it look like a pretty nice beach day, but if you looked a bit closer, you'd have seen we were all covered in goose bumps!

Tuesday 9 August 2011

The North End

We started the day by turning on the TV.

IMG052

That’s what you’re supposed to do on holidays, right?

IMG_6069

We drove up to the North Cape & saw lots of windmills!

IMG_6072

Asher thought it was pretty cool!

IMG_6077

IMG_6087

We also stopped at Westpoint to walk on the beach…

IMG_6090

…and climb the lighthouse!

IMG054

At dinnertime PChad & the kids were entertained watching a spider on the window near our table.  I felt like I wasn’t very interesting company since they had all turned their backs on me, so I entertained myself by colouring their pictures!

Monday 8 August 2011

Fun, Fun, Fun!

After out trip to Moncton, we went home for a few days to recuperate, then we were off to Mill River!

IMG_6062
Our first day was a beautiful sunny day, so we headed to the Fun Park.  The kids had a great time playing in the ball pit!

IMG_6064
There are a few waterslides, & Asher got over his fear of water long enough to go down by himself.  Chancery lasted for about an hour, but the water was pretty cold, so for the remainder of the day, she was content to sit wrapped in a towel & eat all the chips.
IMG_6065
We had a really good day, & were glad we had chosen that day to go since the weather got increasingly worse each day…
