Last Day on Newfoundland

On our last morning in Newfoundland, our ferry ended up being delayed 4 hours.  Since we had some time to kill, we headed out to the boardwalk along the beach.

01

The kids enjoyed ‘working out’ at all the different stations along the way.

08

We watched the waves come into this little inlet, & Asher insisted that I take a picture of it.

10

And the brave ones hit the waves.  It was pretty cold out in the water, so Chancery & I stayed dry.

11

There was a short forest that the kids enjoyed roaming around in as well.

29

We finally made it onto the ferry for the long ride back to Nova Scotia!

36

The kids enjoyed having the playroom almost entirely to themselves, and it had a TV, which made the 6 hour ride a little more bearable.

L’Anse aux Meadows to Port aux Basque

23We started out the morning knowing we had a long drive ahead of us to go from the Northern tip to the Southern port, but we had to get to the Viking settlement before we left.  It was the whole reason we had come up this far!

42

We had to wait a bit before the buildings were opened, so the kids got busy climbing on & around anything they could.

46

They had some period costumes for the kids, along with toys the children of the Norse would have played with.

52

The older kids got to see what it would have been like for an apprentice.  They pumped the billows to help the fire while the blacksmith made nails.

57

One last photo before we head out!

65

If you look in the distance you can see Labrador.  We didn’t make it there this trip.  We just ran out of time!

68

The kids passed the time with books…

70

sleep…

71

and other tomfoolery!

75

We finally made it to Port aux Basque in time for a quick dinner & some running around!

78

Notice the big kid in the middle had some excess energy to burn off too!

Port au Choix & L’Anse aux Meadows

Newfoundland trip, Day 5 took us from Gros Morne National Park up to the Northern tip of the island to see where the Vikings landed.

35

We stopped at Port au Choix first, thinking there might be something exciting to see. What we found was a lighthouse & lots of wind…

46

But we also found a visitor center with some friendly staff who walked the kids through some of the history of the place.

48

And they had a one-footed hopping competition.

53

After the visitor center, we had a bit of lunch & hit the road again!

71

We arrived a bit late in L’Anse aux Meadows, so we only had time to visit Norstead that evening.

109

We took a little hike up to the top of a nearby hill overlooking the ocean.

110

81

Asher tried to pull Owen in the wagon, but it was a bit too tough for him.

117

So, he got a little help, & all the kids had a tiny ride!

124

Chancery showing us how she’s like Atlas.

135

We just had enough time to stop by the L’Anse aux Meadows visitor center before it closed for the night.  We’d have to return the next day…

Too Awesome For Words

I loved this routine from the finale of SYTYCD…  Animation at its best!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

All Around Gros Morne

We started out the morning by heading to the Bonne Bay Aquarium, but we had to wait a few minutes until it opened.

01

The kids busied themselves with playing on the anchor.

03

We enjoyed a brief tour of the aquarium, and then spent some time at the touch tank.

08

We found some itty bitty sea stars!

18

We had a bit of a snafu at the “Wings n’ Tings” restaurant for lunch.  Through a mix-up in the order process, we received our food…

17

But Tara & Troy didn’t.

After lunch we went to the Western Brook Pond for a boat tour of the lake/pond.

38

It was a bit of a hike to get from the parking lot to the boats, but the kids seemed to do alright…

40

There were some disgruntled children once this photo surfaced after the trip!

50

The Western Brook Pond is actually quite a large lake!  It took us over 2 hours to go from one end to the other & back again!  It was nice to see some ‘mountains’ as well.

54

Spencer also discovered Pineapple Crush on this part of the trip, & he was hooked!

74

Chancery had a funny way of showing her affection to her cousins!

84

Overall, we enjoyed our boat tour.  We were glad that we missed the rains, since it would have made it difficult to see much.

90

Once again, we need a moment of silliness!

91

On our way back to the parking lot, there were a lot more rest breaks!  Chancery was sure she could climb this ‘tree’, but had a bit of trouble once she got started!

94

Asher enjoyed his shady spot for a break.

100

Since we had some time, we also stopped off at Lobster Cove Head on our way to the cottages.

109

It was a good place to stretch our legs a bit, & see another corner of the National Park.

Port aux Basque to Rocky Harbour

From Port Aux Basque, we headed up to Gros Morne National Park.

05-001

It was a day of driving…

06-001

sleeping…

07-001

and MORE driving!

11-001

But, we finally made it!

17

We unpacked a bit, then set off to see what there was to see.

27

The kids found a park…

31

and we stopped at Norris Point to overlook the Bonne Bay.
