Milky Way Cake

Last week I attempted to make this cake. It didn't work out so well, but I DID manage to salvage it (I wasn't going to let 8 Milky Way's go to waste after all!). I have since determined that what I did wrong was to make dinner. I put the cake in too close to dinner time & then when I thought the cake was done I put dinner in the oven, determined the cake was not done, after all, but then had to wait 20 minutes before I could put it back in the oven to finish baking it. Oh, I also used the wrong kind of pan b/c I was trying to be a maverick or something. May you have better luck than I did!

By popular demand, here it is:

Milky
Way Cake

8 Milky Way bars (or Mars Bars if you're in Canada)
3 sticks of butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 t. baking soda
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans (I always say nuts are purely optional & I choose not to include them... do as you will)

Melt bars with 1 stick of butter. Let cool.

Cream the other 2 sticks of butter with the sugar & eggs. Add the rest of the ingredients & add the chocolate goo. Beat well.

Pour into greased & floured tube pan.

Bake at 325 for 1 hour - 1hr 35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean


Frosting

2 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. evaporated milk
1 stick butter
1 c. marshmallow cream
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. pecans (again, why ruin something good by adding nuts?)

Cook the sugar & evaporated milk on the stove until it thickens a bit.

Then remove from the heat and add the other stuff until it is frosting.

The frosting part for me was a bit runny, so I just poured it on & figured it still tastes the same whether it's runny or not. It worked well on the cake to keep everything moist.

  1. I am so with you on the nuts. They ruin everything. They certainly don't add to the flavor.

  4. By "sticks of butter" do you mean 1b's?!?!

    I don't suppose it matters that much, as the rest of the recipie looks to be far beyond what my sweet tooth (or lack of) would allow me to bake.

    But I am kinda curious

  5. No, the sticks are 1/2 Cup each. You can buy a box that has 4 sticks in it.

    It's definitely a cake to eat w/ coffee, but if you don't add the frosting it wouldn't be AS sweet! (or as GOOD :)

  6. I'd be scared to make this for fear I would eat the whole thing myself!! Sounds REALLY good! What's a tube pan? Is it the one with the hole in the middle?

  10. Sometimes they come 2 bars together & I've used those & also the standard ones you can get at gas stations.
