“The Deal”

Every night before bed, we ask the kids to say what their 3 favourite things were that happened that day.  A few nights ago when I asked Chancery, she said “the Deal” was one of her favourite things.

Now, the kids are not allowed to watch TV or play video games until 5pm, but I had made a deal with them at 4:30, that if they could play nicely together with no fighting or arguing, they could watch TV at 4:45.  About 5 minutes into it, they were fighting & arguing.  I started coming up the stairs, & Chancery said, “No, Mummy, we are talking about it!”

They wanted to sort it out on their own.  However, I have 2 very stubborn, opinionated children, & neither one would back down from the injustice they thought they were suffering from at the other one’s hand.  So I had to get involved.

It was now 4:45pm.  Chancery asked if they could have a new deal.  So, I told them that if they could not fight or argue for the next 10 minutes they could watch TV early (it was only 5 minutes early, but any extra time is extra fun!).  This time they had a tiff, but they talked it out (instead of fighting it out), & they managed to get the 5 minutes extra.

Even though the first attempt was unsuccessful, the second worked, & Chancery said it was one of her favourite things from that day.  Maybe I’ll have to make more deals!

Christmas Tree Hunting

Last year was our first year to have a real Christmas tree.   It was not a difficult task to find a tree last year since we had a pine tree right beside our driveway which we had decided to remove, so we just used the top part of that.

IMG_0608 This year we had to go a bit further afield, but we found a really nice tree farm not too far away.

IMG_0609 We walked through the trees for about 5 minutes, & saw quite a few really nice ones.  But it was cold, & the colder it is, the faster we decide on a tree, so tree number 3 it was!

They even had Apple Cider & cookies to help us warm up.  We really liked that part!

IMG_0612 Once we got the tree home, the kids enjoyed playing with the netting the tree had been wrapped in.  It was nice to get a little extra use out of it, since it cost extra!

IMG_0614We made sure to set it up straight!

IMG_0615 Then it was time to decorate!

IMG_0617Chancery was excited to put her own ornaments on the tree!

IMG_0618 Asher did a really good job of making sure his were hung just right.

IMG_0619 I sorted the ornaments, & gave all the ones I didn’t want broken to Alexa to hang!

Narrowing It Down…

…kind of.  If you have been following my coat conundrum, you will know that I have already purchased 4 coats trying to find a new winter coat that will keep me warm, has a powder skirt, & thumb holes.
IMG_0594
I thought I should include a picture of my old coat so you know what I’m working from.  I really like this coat, it has served me well for 10 years, but it is getting ratty looking, & I’m starting to worry about the water-proofness of it.
IMG_0591

After getting some feedback, I had narrowed it down to the blue Columbia coat.

(I tried to look happy in all these pictures since people were saying I should not choose certain coats because I looked less happy in the picture)

And I checked one more store & found this Liquid (I can’t find the exact one) coat.
It’s a little longer coat, but it was only available in a Medium…

IMG_0593

…so I called the store back & asked if they could order it in in a Small.  They told me the purple wasn’t available, but they could get the pink version in.  (Hello, my name is Sherilyn, & I may have a shopping problem)

I really like the length of this one, & I am confident that it will keep me warm.  I also think it looks nice, so WE HAVE A WINNER!!!
(and I have 5 coats to return)

The Coat Conundrum

Today I decided it was time to look for a new winter coat for myself.  The kids were both in school & I had no plans for the morning, so I set out to find it.  My old winter coat is 10 years old now.  It’s a bit dirty looking, frayed, & quite bulky, as that was how they were made back then.  Now, with new technology in coats, you can be warm, with 1/2 the weight!  That coat has served me well for the past 10 years, & I set out to find another 10 year coat!

I first stopped at Target, bought a purple down 3/4 length coat that happened to be on sale for almost half price, but after thinking about it, I decided it would not work very well for playing in the snow, or skiing, or the like.  So, less than 1/2 an hour after purchasing the purple down coat, I returned it.

Next, I headed to SportChek, & found a Firefly coat for 40% off.

I like this coat, but it is rather thin, & I was worried that I might not stay warm.  I really, really hate to be cold, & it can get very cold here, so I want a really good coat.

IMG_0575

PChad told me to go check a few more stores, so off I went to Sporting Intentions.  I asked a lot of questions, & was shown a lot of coats of varying prices & warmth.  Nothing was on sale, so I had to settle for paying full price.  After much deliberation, I chose a Scott Coat.

I came home with the 3rd coat of the day, but it did not seem to be any thicker than the Firefly coat.  So, I decided to check Google for some comparisons & reviews.  Unfortunately both of the coats I had come home with are new this year, & so there were no reviews.  PChad decided to join me for another trek to SportChek.

IMG_0577

We looked around & compared many different brands finally settling on a Columbia coat.  even though it wasn’t on sale, it looked to be a warm coat, & it was a little cheaper than the Scott Coat.

So, after buying 4 coats today, & bringing 3 home, it is time to decide which one to keep.  The key thing for me is being warm, the second concern is the colour of the coat, & how easy it would be to keep clean.  All of the coats have thumb holes, of which I am a big fan, so they are all comparable  in that regard.  So now, dear reader, which coat would you choose?

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Dirty Floors

I am not a huge fan of vacuuming.  I try to get away with only doing it once a week, but sometimes it just needs to be done more often.  PChad & I went away for the weekend & left the kids with his parents, who are visiting for a few weeks.  So, since we were away, the vacuuming did not get done on Saturday as usual.

This morning Asher sat down at the table for breakfast & announced, “Mummy, you need to vacuum the floor.  It’s really dirty under my chair.”

I told him, “Well, if it is dirty under your chair, maybe you should do the  vacuuming.”

He was not to be swayed so easily.  “Every time I stand up my feet are getting full of these crumbs!” he replied (so, obviously he couldn’t vacuum or his feet would be full of crumbs).

I think I just may have to show him where the dustpan & broom are…
