The other day I was walking through the living room when Asher stopped me.
He said, "You can't go over there, the baby is sleeping."
So I asked him, "What's the baby's name?"
Asher: "The baby's name is Jesus..... I'm going to give her her plug."
Of course I had to correct that notion, "Baby Jesus is a boy."
He was quite indignant & replied, "No, babies are girls!"
Oh dear, it was time to teach him about genders. So I told him that Chancery is a girl & will grow up to be a lady like Mummy. And Asher is a boy & will grow up to be a man like Daddy.
Asher added, "AND Daddy is a pastor, just like all the other pastors."
So now I'm not sure he understands that not all boys grow up to be pastors, but Chancery woke up from her nap, so I didn't get to sort that all out. Oh well, there are worse things he could believe.

My Blog Has Personality!
PChad sent me the link for typealyzer. It's a site that analyses your blog to determine what parts of your brain are working when you are blogging. I found the results to be quite interesting, but it wasn't a shock to learn that I am a performer. So go on, click the link, discover what your blog is & leave a comment so I can check out how accurate your results are!

Domesticated!
For awhile, the only way that we've been able to survive grocery shopping has been to put Chancery in the Snuggli. This has worked quite well, but now that the weather has turned colder it's proving to be a bit of a nuisance. Fortunately since I seem to have more stuff stocked in the house now, my shopping list has been getting shorter, resulting in shorter shopping trips, so I've been keeping Chancery iin her carseat & she hasn't protested too much.
Asher really likes itt when Chancery is in her Snuggli & often requests that I put her in it. The other day he came w/ a new request. He wanted to carry his "buddies" in the Snuggli, so I made his blanket into a sling. He picked up his tools & set off to work.

Yesterday I got the vacuum out & he begged me to let him have a turn. He's going to make some woman very happy when he gets older... much older.... like 40.

A Balanced Marriage
The other night I lovingly slaved away over the stove making dinner for my beloved family. It was ok, as far as my meals go (not too many are stellar, I'm still learning how to cook). PChad & I were finished, & Asher was figuring out what he could do w/ his food BESIDES eat it.
PChad asked Asher if he'd like dessert (as a motivational tool to get him to eat his dinner), turned to me & said, "I'd like a little bit of ice cream."
I looked right back at him & said, "So would I."
We stared lovingly at one another for a few secoonds before I added, "I cooked dinner."
He replied indignantly, "What is this, a transaction marriage? You do something nice & I demand a favour?"
"Wait, that's not the way I meant it..... I'll get the ice cream."

Would You Like Some Pie?
The other night I had to bring Chancery up to bed at the end of our dinnertime, so Asher & PChad had dessert w/o me. I had bought some Pecan Pie b/c it was in the 50% off bin at the grocery store, and b/c I LOVE pecan pie, you can bet that I was going to make sure I got some later that evening.
When I finally made it back downstairs, Asher & PChad were finished & had started playing, so I found the container on the counter, opened it up, & this is what greeted me:

Honestly, who on EARTH cuts pie like this? He might not be perfect, but he keeps me laughing!

You'd Better Watch Out!
Asher has some Bob the Builder "Tool" books that are shaped like tools. The other day we were sitting on the couch & he asked me where the Bob the Builder Saw book was. I told him that it was in his room on his bookshelf. He raced off to get it & as he did I heard him proclaim,
"I'm going to GO find it, & get it, & saw Mummy's leg OFF!"

Great Books
I just finished reading "Remember Me?
"
by Sophie Kinsella. This was one of those books that you don't want to put down b/c it's sooo great, and yet you know that the more you read it, the faster it will come to an end, so you don't want to read it too fast.
Books like this are a blessing & a curse. I want to read it so badly that I neglect the other things I should be doing like sleeping, cleaning, blogging, making dinner..... I get to a break, where I should stop, but I want to know what will happen, so I keep reading, & next thing I know, 2 hours have passed.
I don't know what's better, to have a book like this that takes all my time until it's done (usually a matter of 3-4 days), or a book that doesn't capture my interest & takes me so long to read it that I forget what's going on in the story. Then I'm less likely to neglect my "duties", but I'm not enjoying myself as much either. I suppose it's good to have a balance, but whenever I finish a book like this I want to find another good one to follow it up with. That's what I like about books in a series (if they are good, if they suck, well, they aren't worth my time), but if there are 14 or so books, I know that for the next month, I can write off doing anything besides reading!
Anyway, I have yet to be disappointed by Sophie Kinsella's books. What should I follow it up with?

Thanks To The Man
Today I went to a Christmas sale & figured the best way to get around w/ the kids would be to use the double stroller. I'm not too experienced w/ said stroller, but I'm practicing in order to get better (and not bump into quite so many things!).
I had Asher in the front & Chancery's seat in the back. That way when we get to a door, I can have Asher push the button. We got to the door, Asher pushed, & pushed, & hit, & POUNDED the button to no avail. So I backed up, pulled the door open, held it w/ my foot, tried to push the stroller, but the wheels wouldn't go over the bump. So I took my other foot, pushed down on the rear axle, tipped the front of the stroller up, switched from holding the door w/ my foot, to holding it w/ my bum, & made it into the building!..... Well, through the first set of doors, we had to repeat the whole process again for the inside doors b/c the second button didn't work either.
I can't begin to imagine how those w/ disabilities manouver through when the buttons don't work. Those doors aren't light, & it can't be easy when you're in a chair, have a cane, or have other impediments.
On the way out I was hoping the buttons would work from the other direction (it has happened before), since I'd have to push the doors open which I find much more difficult to do. No such luck. The buttons seemed to be purely esthetic (but not all that pretty!). There were 2 sets of doors & as I was struggling to get out one set, a man walked around me & exited through the other doors. He walked a few paces, thought better of it & doubled back to hold the doors for me.
So to the man, whoever you might be, I say, "Thank you for being aware of the people around you (namely me)!"
Over at Clan Of The Cave Hair, she's promoting "National Hold The Door Day" December 23rd. Let's join forces & make a difference. Of course we could practice in the days before.... & the days after too!

Works For Me Wednesday - Groceries

I can't tell you how many times I've carefully set my groceries in the back of our Pathfinder, carefully driven home, opened the back of the truck to discover everything has rolled out of the bags.
We have thought of many different options to solve this problem, but most of them cost quite a bit of money, so we keep doing nothing & keep having to re-bag the groceries once we get home. Then it's countless trips in & out of the house to unload all the groceries.
A few weeks ago I got tired of this rig-a-ma-roll. I went to Walmart & I bought 2 of the cheapest laundry baskets they had. Now when I load my groceries into the truck, I put them into the baskets & they stay put on the ride home. Once I'm home I take the baskets out, & instead of 5 trips, it takes 2 or 3 to unload the truck. And that works for me.
Go over to Rocks In My Dryer for more ideas & to link up with what works for you.

Kisses
Last night PChad was putting Asher to bed. Asher came out of his room & ran by me saying that he needed to give Thanet a kiss. Thanet was having a bit of crazy playtime, so I told Asher that now wasn't a good time for Thanet to get a kiss, but that I needed a kiss.
Asher replied, "Yes you DO need a kiss, because you have cheeks!"
I do not understand that kid's logic, but it works for me!

Idiosyncrasies
I've noticed that Asher has a few things that he always does a certain way......
When he's worried that his food might be hot, he will touch it w/ his tongue, blow on it, then place it in his mouth. Sometimes he forgets & goes straight for the mouth, but then he remembers, removes the food, & goes through the whole routine.
When he puts his coat on, he always does the right arm first.
When he puts his shoes on, he always puts the right shoe on first.
When he gives a hug I kiss, he starts by hugging your left shoulder, kisses your left cheek, kisses your right cheek, then hugs your right shoulder. If he forgets one of the steps, he starts all over.
His diaper bag is a backpack & whenever we go somewhere he has to wear it on his back, even if it's just from the house into the garage.
If he burps twice, he will say, "excuse me, excuse me," just to make sure he's excused for both of them.
I'm sure he comes by these habits honestly. I probably have quite a few things I need to do just so, but I don't think I'm going to point them out to you!

Something To Think About
Mull this over for awhile, then tell me what you think.
Christmas Cheer
Here's a little something to help you get in the Christmas spirit:
Happy Baby
This one is mainly for the grandparents.......
Chancery is really starting to vocalize her pleasure in things, especially when she first gets up from her naps.
Enjoy!
