Church Picnic

Friday was the annual church picnic.  Though the weather wasn’t overly sunny, it didn’t rain, & it was a pleasant temperature.

The kids had a great time running around.  They both seemed to get all their injuries for the the day within the first hour, and then had a good time playing on the playground.

PChad found a friend…

…and Chancery found her friend Mr Harrie!

Then we had the adult games.  Teams had to complete a few different tasks including forming a ‘roman horse’ & carrying a person holding an egg on a spoon in their mouth down the field.

The teams also had to fill a cup with water, which was being held in someone’s mouth.  PChad ended up pretty wet, but their team won, so it was worth the sacrifice.

Griffey Raps?

I remember this song playing on the radio only a few times.  I think the only reason it was played at all was because Ken Griffey Jr. played for Seattle, & it was a Seattle radio station.  It was a good attempt, not great, but definitely a valiant effort.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!

Proper Punctuation

Asher was reading out of our children’s Bible after lunch.  We were at the story of Moses, & this particular Bible really simplifies things.  When we got to the part that Pharaoh's daughter finds Moses in the reeds & Moses’ sister offers to help, Asher read a sentence that just didn’t sound right.

Asher read, “Would you like someone to help you?  Take care of that baby!”

It sounded very demanding, which I didn’t remember from the original story.

When I had a look at it later, I saw that it should be, “Would you like someone to help you take care of that baby?”

Which made a lot more sense.  It just goes to show the importance of proper punctuation.

Stickers

As I mentioned a few years back, part of my job at the Western Shop where I worked, was to remove stickers from products we sold.  I still like sticker-free products so I often remove any stickers promptly.

A few days ago, the kids were given small pinwheels that had stickers on the sticks.  Chancery had started peeling the sticker off her stick, but couldn't get it to come off nicely.

This morning, she brought her pinwheel to me as I was lying in bed, & asked, “Mummy, can you take this sticker off for me?”

“Oh, you can just leave it on there,” I told her.

C: “No, I don’t want it on there!”

Me: “Well, then just do your best to get it off.”

(I figured that would keep her busy for a few minutes)

C: “But you are the best sticker picker ever!”

It’s nice to have your accomplishments recognized…

Clean Clothes

PChad has been after me to hang the laundry on the clothesline in our backyard for awhile now, & since today is such a nice day & I was doing laundry anyway, I decided to appease him so he could have some nice outdoorsy smelling shirts.  I got the entire load pinned on the line, & was raising the line up to the “don’t bonk your head on the laundry” level, when the line snapped & all my freshly laundered clothes fell to the ground.

So, I employed the kids to help me gather all the clothes back up off the ground, & put the load in the dryer.  There may be a few things that had a bit of dirt on them, but dirt smells outdoorsy too, right?

Peace Of Mind

A few nights ago, PChad & I were enjoying a rare night together watching a movie at home.  We had decided to watch “The Time Traveller’s Wife”.  PChad had commented when it first came out that it looked interesting, but it didn’t really look like something I’d enjoy.  Perhaps a bit to sci-fi for me (I’m so not into sci-fi).  But I had seen the movie at Walmart a few months ago & bought it from he cheap movie bin.  So, we watched it & I’d like to share a few snippets of conversation that took place during the viewing…

PChad: “This movie is really slow moving.”

Me: “Did I tell you…”

PChad: “Shh, this is kind of a pivotal scene.”

**SPOILER ALERT**

Later in the film, there’s a scene where Henry knows he’s going to die very soon.  Clare asks him if he is afraid…

Me: “If you know Jesus as your Lord & saviour, you have nothing to fear in death.  He has prepared a place for you…”

PChad: “Really?  You’re evangelising to a movie?”

There was also quite a bit of discussion during the entirety of the movie about what the operatic song was that was featured in nearly every major scene of the film.  Never a dull moment in our household, I tell you.

Chancery: “You’re supposed to call him ‘Professor Quigley’ now!”

PRofessor Quigley: “This is a race car.  Race cars can go very fast.”

IMG_5859

Chancery: “The professor can be quite dry at times.”

IMG_5861

Chancery: “But he also has some good information, so listen well!”

IMG_5862

Professor Quigley: “It is always important to wear proper safety gear when in a race car.”

IMG_5863

Chancery: “See?  Aren’t you glad you listened?”

Too Cool?

I don’t mind playing a few ‘Granny Games’ from time to time, but not everyone feels the same…

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Birthday Boy!

Asher turned 5 yesterday, & for part of his celebration, we went out for pizza!

IMG022

He really took it to heart that he was getting older…

1. He was cold at the restaurant

2. He wore his sweater around his shoulders (& discovered it was pretty hard to eat & keep it on that way)

3. We went for an early dinner (we had finished our leisurely meal & left the restaurant by 6 o’clock)

IMG023

And Yumi came with us too!

After dinner we came home for cake & presents!

IMG_5844

It was hard to tell if Asher was more excited for his new skipping rope, or the Lego he got.

IMG_5847

My parents had given me some things for the kids when I was in Montana a few months ago, so I wrapped one of them up for him.

You can’t fake that kind of excitement!

IMG_5853

I really wish I had gotten a video of him openeing his card from PChad’s parents.  There was a check inside & Asher wasn’t quite sure what it was…

Asher: “What’s this for?”

PChad: “That’s money.”

A: “It’s money? … For me to buy stuff with?”

PC: “Yes!”

A: “And I get to pick it myself?”

PC: “Sure.”

A: “Can we go right now?!?!”

PC: “Well, you have to bring that to the bank first & then they will give you money for it.”

A: “Can we go to the bank now?”

Wednesday

Well, we had the Friday song, here’s the Wednesday song!

Are we going to end up with a song for each day of the week?

Pre-K Graduate

Friday night, Asher had his graduation from Pre-K.

They put on a little program, sang some songs, & then we all had some snacks.  I forgot my camera at home, so I had to settle for using the camera on my phone…

Asher & a few classmates sang a song (Asher’s on the left)

He spotted me & we managed a decent picture.  I had him all lined up for when he got his certificate, but someone walked in front of the camera at just the right time, so this is the best I got of him.

Elbows

Chancery & I were outside on Saturday & she commented, “It’s a nice day out today!”

“Yes, it is,” I replied.

Chancery: “And my elbows are nice & warm.”

Me: “Well, that’s good, I guess, to have warm elbows…”

Chancery: “Yes, these elbows right here [she points correctly to her elbows] are really warm.”

Me: “Do you like having warm elbows?”

Chancery: “Yes!  I do like them!”

I don’t even know what to say about this one… but it’s fun & catchy!
