Helping Hands

Why is it that when kids want to help with chores, they always gravitate to the ones you don’t mind doing?

Emptying the dishwasher, no big deal
Laundry, I can handle it.
Dusting, well, someone should do it from time to time, so why can’t they take over THAT?

Asher has decided it’s great fun to load the washing machine, then transfer the clothes to the dryer, but the BEST part is when the dryer is done, because that means he gets to clean out the lint trap.

Luckily, he also finds matching socks to be an enjoyable activity, which is probably my least favourite part of laundry.

Somehow I’ll have to convince him that cleaning sinks & showers is fun, but perhaps I’ll wait a few years ‘til he’s past the water spraying stage.

A book I read when I was little made dusting into a game. You hide a few pennies in a room and you know they have dusted all the spaces when they find all the pennies. We got these garden gloves with yard attached to them for Christmas as a joke present. They are pretty fun to use though - wear the glove and wipe the furniture - if you can somehow make it fun and into a game you might get them to help.

  3. Wow, that's great! Send him on over to my house when he gets done there! :) Matching socks is my least favorite part of the laundry too. Well, pretty much all parts of laundry are my least favorite!
