Laundry Balls

A friend of mine suggested I share this handy laundry tip with you.  So, here goes.  If you have long haired people in your household, you know that you sometimes get hairballs stuck on your clothes when they come out of the dryer.

Ew!

Like this lovely example that was on my sock the other day! I have found an easy way to prevent this from happening.  All you need to do is put 2 or 3 clean tennis balls in your dryer with your clothes.  I also use a dryer sheet with every load to prevent static. Yes, it's a bit noisy, but the hair will stick to the tennis balls instead of your clothes!

All you need to do is pulls the hair off the tennis balls after your load is done. Easy Peasy!

An Odd Up-Do

My hair is very open to the power of suggestion.  That can be a good thing or a bad thing.  When I was in grade 7 I got a perm, & my hair was tightly curled until the day I cut it off, there was no relaxing that perm, & that was ok.  On the few occasions I have had my hair straightened, it stayed straight until I washed it, & I looked like I had been born with straight hair.

However, in general, when I wear my hair down it seems to think it is frizzy time.  No one likes frizzy time.  When I was in highschool I used to dry my hair in a low bun so it would stay relatively straight with some waves at the bottom.  But I have a lot of hair, & it takes a long time to dry.

The best way to manage my hair is to wash it at night & sleep with a towel on my pillow, but recently I have discovered a way to make my hair look even MORE curly, but the first day leaves me with a questionable hair-do...

This is day 1 hair

And this is the result!

Bye-bye Braids!

I have a tradition of growing my hair long, then getting tired of all the tangles, & cutting it all off.

2014-12-23 08.22.21 My hair is really thick, so even after we cut the purple hair off, I had enough to make it worthwhile to donate to Locks of Love.

Eleven inches gone!

It’s always fun to start fresh with short hair & grow it out again, until the next time, 3 years down the road when I choose to cut it all off again!

Cultural References

Asher’s hair is growing long, & at dinner the other night I tucked a lock of hair behind his ear.

PChad said, “No, don’t do that, it looks COOL over his ears!”

Me: “He looks like a Beatle!”

PChad: “I know, it’s cool!”

Asher: “I look like a beatle!  BUZZ!!!”

******

A few days later Asher had just combed his hair & came downstairs.

Asher: “Do I look like a fly, Mum?  Look at my hair!  BUZZ!”

I guess he’s a bit too young to understand the Beatles…

Deep Thoughts

Chancery was lying in our bed this morning, & I could tell she was thinking some deep thoughts.  After a few minutes’ contemplation, she declared:

“Some people don’t even need hair.  Because they are bald!”

This statement wasn’t as out of the blue as you may think.  Just last Sunday whilst sitting in church, Asher announced quite loudly during a quiet part of the service:

“That man has no hair at all!”

The man in question was sitting directly in front of Asher, so there was no doubt he had missed what was said…

but I guess he doesn’t really need hair anyway.

Re-Takes

I realized after we did the “Sunday Pictures” photo session last week that I hadn’t done Chancery’s hair yet.  I decided to try to get all her hair in 2 pigtails, & was quite pleased to discover that her hair is finally long enough for it to work!

So, then I had to take pictures of the finished product…

IMG_5420
and if I’m taking pictures of one, I have to take pictures of both…

IMG_5422
It’s like they were born knowing about photo sessions!

IMG_5423
…but Asher wasn’t quite ready yet

He decided he could take this gig on the road.

Asher: “Ready to go!”

Water Fountains

We were driving in the car last week, & Asher & Chancery were arguing quite heatedly about something.  I turned the radio off so I could figure out what was causing such trouble, since they weren’t fighting over a toy.

Asher: “It’s like water!”

Chancery: “NO!”

Asher: “It’s like a water fountain!”

Chancery: “No it’s NOT!”

Asher: “It looks just like a water fountain!”

Chancery: “No!  Stop it, Asher!”

So I turned around to see what they were talking about…

Apparently Chancery was quite upset about her hair being compared to a water fountain, but in Asher’s defence, I do think he was right.

Sometimes I Get A Little Bit Crazy.....

There are days I don't feel like doing my hair at all. There are days my hair just doesn't want to look good & then there are days like today:

I am rockin' the faux-hawk today!

Hair Styles

In response to Sarah's post at Life In The Parsonage, I went back to see how much (or little) my hair has changed over time.

Here's a picture of me in 1994. Take note of just how blonde/white my hair was. Some curl, mostly frizz.

And in 2005, more of a honey blonde, better taken care of perhaps, not as frizzy, more curl, nice length.

In April of 2006 we have lost some length mainly due to a donation to "Locks of Love" rewarding me w/ a free haircut. What's 10" when you are saving $10?

Amazingly, by January of 2007 I've gained quite a bit of length back, but my hair is still getting darker.

By May 2007 I had donated again to "Locks of Love", hence the short hair once again.

August 2008, it took a lot longer for my hair to grow this time. It seemed to have more frizz than curl once again, so I went to a REAL salon & paid big bucks for a REAL haircut!
Before:
After:

See the difference? Me neither. Needless to say, I wasn't super happy w/ my one Salon experience, so I had a girl from church fix it:

Much better! I'm starting to look like a grown up!
