Just In Case You Ever Wonder -Review

A few weeks ago, I was sent a copy of Just In Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucado to review.  Today Chancery & I sat down to read it together.  She really enjoyed the illustrations, & I enjoyed the theme of the story, that the child’s parent will always be there for them, & that they are glad that God placed the child with them so that they could teach him about heaven.

I did think the market for this book might be a bit narrow since it is clearly written for Christian families.  The first few pages talk about how the parent was there when the baby was born, & will continue to be there as the baby grows.  That is something that will resonate with all parents.  Then it starts talking about how God placed the child in this family in order for him to learn about God & heaven, I thought that it’s a good point to make to those growing up in a Christian home, but won’t be very applicable for others.

IMG_6365

Chancery: “Do you really think that’s where it is, Asher?”

IMG_6366

Asher: “Or maybe the car ran over it!”

Chancery: “Then it would be a car fan!  Ha, ha!”

Math

Math is a subject close to my heart.  I have always loved it, & at one time I had planned to teach it.  This video introduces a new way to think about mathematics…

The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far…

Chancery & I were picking out her clothes for the day awhile ago, & I chose a pair of pink cargos pants, & a tank top for her.

Chancery: “Am I going to church today?”

Me: “No, not today.”

Chancery: “Then why am I not wearing jeans?”

I love that she figures that if she wasn’t wearing jeans, she’s dressed up.  Just like her Mum.

Comfort

I’m a big fan of comfortable clothes.  Being warm is at the top of my list of priorities when I get dressed in the morning.  Hoodies are a winter staple.  I’ve got a rainbow array of them in my closet.

I was telling PChad the other day, that I was looking for some nice long-sleeved t-shirts to fill out my wardrobe, but I didn’t want plain ones.  I want them to have a bit of a design on them.

“Why don’t you look for something nicer than t-shirts?” he asked me.

“Well, then what would I wear with my hoodies?” I replied.

He responded, “Exactly.”

Strange Dreams

Chancery has been waking up the last few nights, crying in the middle of the night.  The first night I went into her room, & it took a bit to get her awake enough to stop crying.  Once she finally figured out I was there, she said, “I don’t want to have a time-out!”

I assured her that she had been dreaming, & she didn’t have to have a time-out.  She just laid down & went back to sleep, easy-peasy.

Last night, she woke up again, & I went into her room.  She looked at me & said, “Asher dropped a book on my foot yesterday, & he hurt me!”

I asked her if he did that in her dream, & she replied, “No, he did that yesterday!”

I assured her that it probably wasn’t on purpose, & now was time to sleep.  She promptly laid down & went back to sleep again.

While I’m not thrilled at being woken in the middle of the night, I am glad that it’s so easy to get her back to sleep, & it’s a bit funny the things that wake her up!

Dancing Fools

I think the kids may have been watching Barbie movies a bit too much…

I just love their dancing terminology!

I Hear Noises At Night

Asher has a habit of trying to read books in his pitch-black room after we put him to bed at night.  So, about 15 minutes after I got the kids in bed, when I heard him talking (he reads aloud), I figured he was reading.  I went upstairs, opened his door, & turned on the light.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Just singing a little bit, and praying to God,” he replied.

I couldn’t really fault him for that, so I just said goodnight again, & quietly closed the door.

Big Plans

My friend Sarah took a trip to the States a few months back, & came back loaded up with treats we can’t get here in Canada.  She brought me things like Nutter Butters, Cap’n Crunch Berries, & Kix cereal.

Asher decided to veer away from his standard bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, & had tried Honeycomb, but this morning, he asked for Kix.  I asked him, “Are you enjoying your bowl of Kix?”

Asher:  “Yes.  I want to have Honeycomb tomorrow, & Kix the next day, & then Honeycomb, then Kix… until I die.”

Me: “Well, that’s not going to work, because you can only get Kix in the States, so once this box is gone, then we won’t have anymore.”

Asher: “Well, then I’ll just have Honeycomb, then Kix, until the box is gone!”

It’s A Lonely Gig

After I picked Asher up from the bus stop yesterday, he told me, “I think my bus driver feels lonely when all her customers are gone.”

Me: “Well, maybe she gets to go home & see her husband after she drops all the kids off.”

Asher: “Well, maybe, but I think she misses all her customers.”

Return Visit

After my parents left, they boarded a cruise ship with my Aunt Joyce & Uncle Winson, which had a stop in Charlottetown.

IMG_6284

Chancery & I got to spend the day as tour guides, showing them a bit of the Island.

IMG_6286

As we were waiting at the harbour, Chancery met a friend.  She went up & asked the Mountie, “Where’s your horse?”  He chatted with her for a few minutes until Grandpa & Grandma arrived with Uncle Winson & Aunt Joyce.

IMG_6289

The weather was nice, but cool, so after an obligatory stop at Tim Horton’s, we were off to Green Gables.  Chancery kept asking, “Where’s Anne?” but we never saw her.

I think she only hangs around in the summer.

IMG_6292

Chancery was really enjoying another day with her Grandparents, & “the other Grandpa & Grandma”, as she kept referring to Uncle Winson & Aunt Joyce.

IMG_6295

We stopped by the beach…

IMG_6297

but it was pretty cold & windy, so we didn’t stay long.

After lunch, we took our tourists out to Mr. Harrie & Miss Geesje’s farm.

IMG_6304

My parents had such a good time when they were there a few weeks before, that they asked if they could go back again!

IMG_6315

Mr. Harrie & Miss Geesje graciously hosted us for tea & a farm tour.

IMG_6316

We picked Asher up after school, & our last stop of the day was to the Poffertjes shop!

Before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye again.  The next morning, Asher asked, “How many more days until Grandma & Grandpa come back again?”  He was a bit disappointed when I told him it wouldn’t be ‘til after Christmas!
