From Port Aux Basque, we headed up to Gros Morne National Park.
It was a day of driving…
sleeping…
and MORE driving!
But, we finally made it!
We unpacked a bit, then set off to see what there was to see.
The kids found a park…
and we stopped at Norris Point to overlook the Bonne Bay.
The trip to Newfoundland was underway! We began the day by loading on the ferry for a 6 hour ride.
Chancery spent some of the time perfecting her stance…
Once we arrived in Port Aux Basque, we decided to head for the beach. We were nearing the end of summer, & since we were headed North for the rest of the week, we figured this might be the only chance we had to play in the waves.
Paige & Owen got sucked into the sand!
After dinner a delicious Chinese dinner, we headed to the wharf area for some live music & beaver tails.
We enjoyed the entertainment immensely!
Chancery has been very excited to start school, & didn’t think it was fair at all that Asher has already had almost a week of classes before she got to start.
It’s not often easy to get Chancery to look at the camera when taking her picture. For some unknown reason she looks down at the last minute…
Asher’s in Grade one, taking French Immersion again this year. His teacher is very French, so we think this year will be a good challenge for him, & hopefully he learns a lot.
Chancery is in Pre-K. She’s excited about meeting new friends & hanging out with some of the kids she already knows. She is quite familiar with one of her teachers, & is fine with being left places, so we’re pretty sure she’s going to enjoy this year. Hopefully she’ll take a bit of interest in reading over the next year!
After we had gone to Burlington, we drove along the North Shore to Cavendish Beach. We had a little bit of time before PChad was meeting us for supper, so we wandered around the red sand cliffs.
And jumped off the cliffs…
Asher was happy to have found someone to make funny faces with!
We headed up to Greenwich Provincial Park for an afternoon of wearing the kids out hiking, & swimming.
On the way, we stopped at the boardwalk shops, & there was much excitement over one particular store…
Everyone’s a comedian!
We had our traditional gas station picnic lunch.
Saw some pretty butterflies, & lots, & lots of raspberries!
Then it was time to head for the beach via the boardwalk
It was a long, hot hike, but it made the water feel really nice & refreshing!
Asher collected some shells & rocks. He chose to display them on Paige’s flip-flops.
Uncle Troy rolled this log down tot he water & we managed to get it to float for awhile, but the tide brought it back to shore eventually
Greenwich has always been a fun place to visit, & we had another very fun day!

Asher: “I’m told that I’ll be waiting on girls to be ready for a long time.”
Asher: “I don’t mind… too much.”
Chancery: “Here I am!”
Asher: “Chancery, you were blocking me!”
Chancery: “Sorry, Asher, I was just so excited for pictures!”
Chancery: “But I’m ready now, so let’s get to it!”
Asher: “I think we’re about done, Chancery.”
Chancery: “Not without doing a silly one, Asher!”
Yesterday was Asher’s first day of school, & it was raining when he came home from the bus. PChad asked me if I had gone to the bus stop to meet Asher, & I told him, “No, I just waited at the end of the driveway.”
PChad: “Well, why didn’t you go up to meet him?”
Me: “The bus stops right at the top of the hill, besides, it was raining, so I just stood on the driveway.”
Asher: “You could have come up the hill, if it’s raining you could have brought an umbanana.”
Yeah, he stumbled a bit with that one. We don’t often use an umbrella, so it was a fair mistake that he couldn’t think of what it was called…
Me: “So, you want me to meet you at the bus stop, in the rain, holding a banana?”
PChad: “Then you would ask, ‘Why do you have a banana, Mum?’.”
Me: “Well, it’s raining, so I have my banana of course!”
We all had a good laugh out of picturing me at the bus stop, in the rain, holding a banana aloft!
We started off our adventure with some go-carting!
I guess helmets are only important if they have one in your size…
The 3 little kids even got to drive their own cars on a special track!
Chancery couldn’t reach the peddles, so the worker ended up pushing her car around the whole time. When she got out of the car at the end, Chancery turned to the worker & said, “Thank you, but next time you should make it go faster!” Tara & I got quite a laugh out of that!
The ball pit was a hit as always…
We mini golfed, & had 4 hole in ones, so we ended up winning a bunch of frisbees!
And we had just enough tickets for a few people to do bumper cars, but since it’s no fun to have only 2 cars running, they let all of us go!
