Petit Papillon

Asher had an end of the year concert at his school last Friday.  Chancery & I enjoyed the 2 songs his class sung, even though we didn’t understand much of them…

Asher didn’t spot us in the crowd until after he had performed, so in the video he is looking around trying to find us.  Overall it was a really good concert!

Song Writer

Chancery came up to me & told me the other day that she had written a song, & she wanted to sing it for me.  I asked if I should make a video of it & she was quite willing…

Yes, we’re still working on those ‘R’s

Treasure Hunt

Friday was my first foray into entertaining 4 kids on my own.  I’m not one of those who thinks throwing a huge kids’ birthday party sounds fun, so I like to keep it small & simple.  Have a few kids over for a sleepover, & cake & call it good.  I even served Lucky Charms in the morning!

Since PChad was not yet home from his trip, I decided to just give Asher 1 gift from us, but to make it something the kids could play with together if they so chose.  I figured I should make a bit more of a to do about it since Asher would be getting a small gift from Jack & a smallish gift from me, & I wanted to make sure to kill some time as well.

So, I told Asher that he needed to check the dryer for me.  He often unloads clothes from the dryer for me, so he figured I was sending him to do a chore, instead he found this…

And, as planned, the boys went outside (despite the rain), & played for an hour ‘til dinnertime.  I call that a success!

Asher’s Birthday Part 1

PChad has been on a trip for the last 10 days.  Today Asher came home from school & asked, “Will Daddy be home before my birthday?” (His birthday is next weekend).

“Yes, Daddy will be home tomorrow,” I told him.

“Oh good.  I didn’t want him to miss Father’s Day, & it’s on Sunday!” Asher replied.

It was really cute to hear that Asher was more concerned about PChad missing out on Father’s Day than Asher’s birthday, or maybe he just figured that if he was home for Father’s Day, he would also be home for the birthday.

Today we celebrated Asher’s birthday by having a friend over for a sleepover.  It’s the first time the kids have had friends sleep over, & I figured it would be less fighting if Chancery had a friend to play with too, so we decided to have our friends Jack & Violet stay over.  We are celebrating a week early since Jack & Violet will be moving to Newfoundland next week, & won’t be around for Asher’s actual birthday.

We had frozen pizza for supper, since everyone loves pizza.  Jack exclaimed, “Oh boy, pizza again!”  I’m not sure when he last had pizza, but at least he was excited about it!  Then it was cake time.  I had asked Asher yesterday whether he wanted a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, or a yellow cake with chocolate frosting.  He decided on the yellow cake, but then I told him that I didn’t have one in the pantry, so I’d have to go to the store to get one in the morning.

Asher: “I’ll just have carrot cake then.”

Me: “It’s ok.  I don’t mind going to the store.  I can get one in the morning & bake it while you are at school.”

Asher: “That’s ok Mum.  I don’t want to have to send you to the store for it.  I’ll just have carrot.”

Me: “Are you sure?  Because I can get the other cake quite easily…”

Asher: “Yes, carrot cake will be fine.”

So, tonight I served carrot cake, but Jack said, “Sherilyn, I don’t really want a piece of cake.  I’m feeling quite full.”

Me: “Are you sure?  I can cut you a small piece so you can try it.”

Jack: “No, sometimes I find the frosting too sweet, & I don’t like it.”

In the end, he decided he would have some cake, & announced, “I really like this cake!” but he only ate a few bites.  I guess we’ll be eating a lot of cake in the next few days!  Good thing PChad will be coming home tomorrow to help us out!

Next week we’ll have a SEVEN year old in the house!

Mother’s Day Tea

Chancery’s school had a Mother’s Day tea last month.  The kids worked really hard making certificates stating why their mother was the best, desserts, crafts, & sang a song.

IMG_9548

The certificates mostly said things like, “My mother is the best because she loves me,” or “…because she gives me hugs & kisses.”  My two favourite ones said, “…because she lets me touch her ear,” & “…because she has a squishy tummy.”  I was just thankful that I am the best mom because I love Chancery!

IMG_9549

The kids made a special craft for their moms, & made the wrapping paper & wrapped the gifts themselves.

IMG_9550

Chancery was very proud of her wrapping paper.

IMG_9551

We also invited Miss Geesje along since Grandmothers are encouraged to attend & our Grandmas live a bit too far away.

IMG_9552

The gift this year was a foot butterfly!  I thought it was a very creative gift, & I love it!

IMG_9656

Chancery: “That sounds fascinating!  Tell me more!”

IMG_9657

Asher: “There’s a monster that’s trying to win the game.”

IMG_9658

Chancery: “I bet it’s just a man wearing a mask, Asher!”

IMG_9659

Asher: “That’s why I like Scooby Doo, there are never any real monsters to be afraid of, Chancery!”

Good Manners

Chancery had her Intro to Kindergarten day today.  Basically they give all the Kindergarten kids the day off so that the kids who will be in Kindergarten next year can come to school & see what the morning will be like.

As we walked the kids into the building to their classrooms, we were met at the doors by the Principal & the Assistant Principal.  When Chancery was next to the Principal she stuck out her hand.  He fumbled a bit, then took her hand & shook it.

“Oh, we’re starting off with a handshake!” he exclaimed, “I like it!”

I guess Chancery is just so used to shaking people’s hands as we go into church that she figured that’s why the Principal was there.
