Fashion Design

Chancery has been on a coloring streak making lots of little pictures of people & animals & cutting them out to tape on PChad’s office door.  She also tried her hand at making clothes for her dog Ginger.

Here is Ginger modeling a dress & crown.

Chancery seems to have abandoned that project since her creations weren’t holding up to her playing with them.  She has said many times though that she now wants to be a fashion designer.  Perhaps we’ll have to ask Grandma for some sewing lessons when we’re visiting this summer!

Dahl Soup (Indian Red Lentil Curry Soup)

We had a soup potluck at church yesterday, & PChad’s soup was a hit!  I had many people come & tell me they really enjoyed my soup, but I had to give all the credit to PChad.

I have only made soup twice in my life.  The first time we had to stop on the way home from the potluck we had brought it to to dump it out in the ditch… it was that bad.  The second time was better, but not by much.  So, I’ll leave the soup making responsibilities up to PChad.  He does a much better job of it!

Dahl Soup

2 T Butter/Margarine
2 Garlic Cloves, chopped
1 Onion, chopped
2 T Curry Powder (or to taste)
2 cans Chopped Tomatoes
1 C Lentils (preferably Red)
2 t Lemon Juice
2 C Vegetable Stock
1 can Coconut Milk
Salt & Pepper too taste

-Saute Onion & Garlic in butter (about 3 minutes)

-Add spices, cook 30 seconds

-Add remaining ingredients

-Bring to a boil

-Simmer 25-30 minutes (until the lentils are tender & cooked)

Big Ears

Last night Chancery woke up with a sore ear.  We decided to take her temperature & give her some tylenol.  While she was sitting with the thermometer in her mouth PChad was trying to figure out the right dose of medicine to give her.  He had picked up the bottle & was reading the chart on the side.  As he did so, he kind of muttered, “How old is she?  Four?”

Chancery’s little voice rang out, “And a half!”

She listens to every little conversation going on around her & has a very good memory too.  We always have to watch what we talk about with her big ears around!

Paddles

Chancery asked me to make her a paddle a few days ago.  First I made one similar to a ping-pong paddle, but that was apparently not what she was after.  We discussed it a bit more, & Chancery drew me a diagram.  I finally came up with the correct type of paddle.  Then she wanted two.  Here’s what the paddles were for…

So Much Excitement!

Asher had last Friday & this Monday off of school while the school staff moved everything into the newly built school building.  Chancery was in school, & I had my regular errands to run, so Asher came along with me.  He was very excited to see what I do when he’s in school

Friday started with a few stops to pick up items from people I had bought items from off Kijiji.  After that I we had a coffee & donut at Tim Horton’s, then we were off to Zellers for the last week of their closing sale.  We also managed to look around the dollar store while at the mall, & then Asher requested we stop at Value Village to look at books.

Monday is grocery day, so the two of us headed to the grocery store.  Asher wasn’t all that excited about this errand until I reminded him that kids get cookies from the bakery section.  We came home & I let him play his DS while I put all the groceries away.

Tuesday morning was full of excitement as it was the first day in the new school building.  As we were walking out the door Asher asked, “Mum, during March break, can we do all the things you normally do when I’m at school?  I want you to show me what you do.”

I think he has this notion that I go & do all kinds of fun things while the kids are gone.  I answered him, “That’s what we did on Friday & Monday, Asher.  All those errands that  we did, those are the kinds of things that I do when you kids are in school.”

It is safe to say he was extremely disappointed, but maybe now he won’t be so eager to stay home from school in the future!

Hand in Hand

Chancery has been making lots of paper crafts lately.  It’s great to see her getting better at holding the scissors the right way, & cutting better.  She is also getting quite imaginative with what she’s making.

This is a picture of  Chancery & PChad holding hands.  PChad has short spiky hair, & Chancery is wearing a toque.  Notice they are also wearing matching outfits.  This has become quite the trend in our household lately!

Contagious

Apparently when we were sick last month, we were more contagious than we thought…

IMG_9262

Chancery’s buddy, Ginger was so tired I caught her napping on PChad’s chair!

IMG_9240

And Asher’s buddy, Russell, obviously caught a bit of the stomach bug that was going around!

But we are all feeling better now, & I think we have had enough of the flu, colds & sinus infections to last the rest of the year!

Working For Reward

Chancery & I went to Value Village last week & I picked up a few bags of toy animals to fill in some of the gaps in our animal collection.  Chancery was very excited to play with these new toys, & apparently I was not getting around to cleaning them quite fast enough for her, so she took it upon herself to wash them!

IMG_9307

I gave her a small container & a toothbrush, & she carefully clean & dried all the new animals.

IMG_9308

It was a great task for her, & kept her occupied for nearly an hour!

IMG_9309

After all the animals were clean, she introduced them to her old animals & played nicely for another hour!  All in all it was a pretty quiet afternoon!

Birthday Lunch

I received a call a few days after my birthday, that my friend Ellen would like to take Gonda & I out for lunch to celebrate our birthdays since they are one day apart.  Due to sickness & snow, we had to reschedule twice, but today we finally got to celebrate together!

These are ladies from church who I have gotten to know through our mutual love of cross-stitch.  They are much more dedicated than I am, I usually don’t pick my cross-stitch up except for our monthly get togethers where we spend the afternoon talking over coffee & needlework.  I have really grown to love the time that we get to spend together, & despite the decades between us, I am glad to call these ladies my friends.
