Not So Sleepy-Time

At naptime the other day, I noticed Chancery was making quite a bit of noise, so I went to check on her.  There was an open magazine on her nightstand, so I asked her…

Me: “Chancery, were you reading this magazine?”

Chancery: “No.”

Me: “Well, I’ll take it away so you won’t be tempted.”

Chancery: “But the author wants me to do that!”

Such a clever girl!

Baby Kitties

Saturday afternoon, I brought the kids out to Miss Geesje’s farm to see the kittens.  I reminded the kids over & over to be gentle, Asher did really well, Chancery had a harder time of it.

At one point I told the kids that they shouldn’t cross the driveway with the kittens, since they might not know that cars are dangerous.

Chancery: “And then the kitty might get killed by a car, & then the mummy kitty would be sad about her babies.  She would have to lay more kitty eggs, & then wait & wait for them to hatch!”

Chancery was very excited during the explanation about her baby kitty eggs, though a bit misguided.

Me: “Cats don’t lay eggs, they just have baby kitties.”

Chancery: “And then they are teeny tiny like mice, & then they grow up, & up, & up into bigger kitties!”

Whew!  We salvaged that one!

Asher: “Today we are wearing red, because it is Pentecost.”

Chancery: “That means that God sent the Holy Spirit to be with us!”

Chancery: “Some men were sitting in a room a long, long time ago, & all of a sudden they all had little flames on their heads!”

IMG_7646

Asher: “I wish I still had a little flame on my head, then I could see in the dark!”

Chancery: “Asher, you are so funny!”

A Little Treat?

A few days ago I had some errands to run, & I had to take the kids with me after school.  Asher doesn’t like having to go anywhere after school, he would much rather stay home & play outside, but there was no getting around it.  I offered to take the kids to Tim’s if they behaved themselves in the stores.

They weren’t angels, but they did their best to earn their donuts, so I let them pick what kind they wanted, & I told them to choose which kind of juice they wanted to share.  If they couldn’t agree, they’d have water instead.

After some negotiating, I heard Asher ask Chancery, “Would you like to have some of the Peach Poison Juice?”

I think we may have to work on his reading a little this summer!

The Mother’s Day Gift

We have Coffee Break at our church on Tuesday mornings, & last week was the final week of it.  There are different classes for the kids, separated by age groups.  Chancery’s group made necklaces for all the Mums last week.  My friend JJ came up the stairs wearing her gift from her daughter, but Chancery insisted that I couldn’t open mine until Mother’s Day.  Since I had seen JJ’s, I knew what my gift would be, & I figured it would be similar to hers.

When I opened my gift on Sunday morning, I was a bit surprised at the difference between the necklace JJ had been wearing, & the one Chancery gave me.  Here’s JJ’s necklace…

And here is the one Chancery gave me…

Notice that there is a knot right at the centre of the necklace, so my beads all hang on one side.  Chancery told me, “You can wear it when you have your jammies on!”  I think I just might!

Songstress

Chancery has been very into rhyming in the last little while.  She also likes making little songs.  This morning she treated me to this little ditty:

♪♫ “Kitty, kitty, has a bed… ♫♪

♪♫ “I love my kitty, and he’s not… ♫♪

♪♫ “ …DEAD!” ♫♪

Watch out, World, she just might make it big someday!

Sunday School Lessons

Yesterday I picked the kids up from their Sunday School room after church, & as they ran out they handed me their crafts.

Apparently, they learned the story of Jesus feeding the 5000.  Chancery handed me her basket…

IMG_7613

Then she told me about what was inside.

“I have two fish, & five pieces of bread in my basket, but they look like potatoes to me!”

IMG_7614

Sometimes, along with the craft that coincides with the story, they make additional crafts as well. Asher handed me this & said, “That’s me… and I have a beard!”

Candy Man?

I just overheard Asher saying to Chancery, "Come on little girl, get in my car & I'll give you some candy!"

Chancery was willingly following him to the ‘car’.

I had a nice little chat with them about not going anywhere with strangers, “even if they offer you puppies!”

Chancery very seriously shook her head at me, & said, “I can’t go with you, Asher, you are a stranger!”
