What A Find!

I found an ad on Kijiji (Canadian Craig’s List) for a few vintage Fisher Price school buses, the Village, & the Bouncing Buggy.  It was only $10, & though I had a Village already, the one I have was pretty beat up & missing a piece of roof.

IMG_7597

When I contacted the seller, she said she had a few more Fisher Price things that she hadn’t listed, but I could come & see what she had.  When I got to her place, she had a table with a few of the toddler toys, like the TV, the Clock Radio, & the Camera, as well as some pull toys, & poppers.

IMG_7599

I don’t really collect any of the other Fisher Price things other than the old Little People.  That’s what I really like, & the playsets take up quite a bit of room as it is.  The kids are starting to really enjoy playing with the Little People, but are too old for any of the toddler toys.

I saw on the table the Sesame Street Club House.  I had played with this when I was younger, & really enjoyed it.  I’ve been looking for it for awhile, but it’s pretty hard to find, & the few times I’ve seen it for sale, it’s been quite expensive.  The lady asked if I was looking for anything in particular, & I named a few of the sets I don’t have, but I also asked if she had any accessories.  She brought out a box with a few people, & a few cars.  She told me she had a bit more in another room, & when she came back she was holding the CAMPER!!!!

She said, “I’ll let you have this, if you promise to love it.  It’s one of my favourites, & I don’t want to let just anyone have it.”

The camper is another hard to find set, & I had it when I was growing up as well.  So, I told her that I’d been looking for that as well, & she was quite pleased that her treasures were getting a good home where they would be appreciated & played with.

So, for my second $10, I got all this…

And the Camper, complete with truck, boat & ladder!

After we made the deal, she gave me a few more pieces for free.  We ended up with the Pull-a-Long Lacing Shoe, & the Tumble Tower which had been the lady’s when she was little.

Chancery & I were both quite happy with our findings this morning!

My Crazy Day

Yesterday I brought my Pathfinder into the shop since I’ve had a leaky tire for the last 6 weeks or so.  I figured it was time to get it fixed.  It was a perfect time to do so, since PChad is gone on a trip so I’d have full use of the car.

This morning, as I was dropping Asher off at school, the check engine light in the car came on.  Since I don’t know a whole lot about vehicles, I figured I’d better bring IT to the shop since I didn’t want to do something foolish like drive around without oil.

The VW people said the Jetta should be done by lunchtime, & they’d give me a call.  A few of us girls were planning on getting together today, so I called my friend Sarah, & asked her to pick Chancery & I up on her way.

After out morning out, I still hadn’t heard from either dealership, so I had Sarah drop Chancery & I at the house.  By 3pm I was calling both places.  My truck hadn’t been looked at yet, & the car had a broken heat sensor they were working on replacing.

A few minutes later I got a call from VW…

“We noticed your headlight is out, would you like us to replace the bulb for you?”

Normally I’d say yes, since the bulbs on the Jetta are not the easiest to replace, but PChad had recently told me that the headlight has an ongoing issue…

“NO!  Please don’t change it!  If you bang on the headlight, it comes back on,” I told the service guy on the other end.

I’m sure he was wondering at the urgency in my voice, but we have had them replace a perfectly good bulb before, & I didn’t want an unnecessary expense!

Around 5pm, I got the call that my Pathfinder was ready, but since I have no other vehicle, & no driver, I asked to be picked up.  They didn’t have anyone available until 5:20 to drive me.  I had been hoping to be able to get my truck while Yumi (our college student) was still home, but she wanted to leave shortly after 5, so I asked to be picked up with the truck since it had the kids’ car seats in them that would be necessary to transport them to & fro.

Two minutes later, I got the call from VW that the Jetta was ready.  I asked if they could pick me up figuring I could cancel the Pathfinder pick-up for today, & get it tomorrow.  VW had no drivers available, but offered to send a Taxi at no charge to me.

I asked Yumi to hang out with the kids for a few minutes while I got the car, since the car seats were in the car & truck respectively, so I had no way to transport the kids in a cab.  She agreed, & I took my first Charlottetown taxi ride!  In a smelly, smoky cab!  But I got my car, so it all worked out.

Once I got home, since I had delayed Yumi, I offered to drive her to her friend’s house.  I loaded everyone up & off we went!  I got home from all the running around around 5:45, ordered Dominos, gave Chancery a bath, we ate dinner, & the kids even got to bed on time!  Whew!!!

Tomorrow I get the truck, we’ll see how smoothly that goes…

It’s Not A Building!

As we were driving up to the church for Coffee Break today, Chancery announced, “I can see the church through the trees!”

We often watch for it as we are coming up the hill, & we make the announcement as soon as we see the building.

Chancery then continued on, “The church can drive, you know.”

Me: “Can it?  I don’t think so, it’s pretty stuck where it is.”

Chancery: “Yes it can drive, because you are driving, and you are the church, & I am the church too!”

So great to know she gets it at such a young age.  The church isn’t the building, it’s the people who gather together!

Our Easter services were pushed back a week due to snow, & last week I had no computer, so here are our Easter outfits, & this week, combined!

Chancery is wearing a dress that was mine when I was little.  My parents have a picture of me with my brothers on the stairs in our old house, so I thought I should take the pictures on the stairs for posterity’s sake.

Asher: “Hey, look at us, we’re in a different place!”

IMG_7569

Chancery: “And we’re celebrating Easter, even though it was LAST week!”

IMG_7570

Asher: “Yes, but we can celebrate Jesus rising from the dead ANY day, Chancery!”

A Lesson In Government

I had to bring some papers to our accountant today, & I was trying to get the kids moving.

Me: “Come on, we need to go see the tax man!”

Asher: “We shouldn’t go see him, he’s just going to take our money!”

Me: “Well, we have to give it to the government anyway, & the tax man is the guy who makes sure we give the right amount.”

Asher: “But he never gives US any money back!”

Me: “Yes, he does.  Sometimes we pay too much & then he gives us some back.”

Asher: “What is the government anyway?”

Me: “It’s a group of people who make the rules, & then make sure people are following the rules.”

Chancery: “I wish the tax man could babysit us sometime.”

Asher: “He can’t babysit us!  He’s a MAN!”

…next up, a lesson in gender roles???

Gone Again....

No, not gone on a trip this time, only my computer is gone.  I'm having a bit of trouble with it staying on, so it's getting fixed again.  Hopefully it comes back soon, but in the mean time, I won't be around much.

Easter Egg Hunt

we had a cool, but sunny day on Saturday for our annual Easter Egg Hunt with friends.  The kids are getting bigger, so we have to do a bit more than throw the eggs out on the grass now!

IMG_7557

Ready to go!

Is it a giant egg?  No, just a reflecting ball.

(He hadn’t figured out at that point that the eggs were all empty!)

The kids enjoyed all the treats we had ready in the house.

IMG_7566

…and the Mums enjoyed the coffee!

We had a great time getting together for the hunt, & as Asher said, “I wish we didn’t have to wait a whole year for this!”

Asher: “So that’s why he had to send Jesus to die, because we were still so naughty, so Jesus took our punishment instead!”

Chancery: “That’s awesome, Asher!”

Finders, Keepers

SPV_CanadianDimes001_Thumbnail.jpg85a992e5-a81f-4eba-b6ae-54f3c374808cLarger

This morning, Chancery & I were in line at Starbucks, & the woman behind us dropped some change on the floor.  She stooped to pick it up, but Chancery noticed a dime that the lady had missed.  Chancery picked up the dime, & held it up to the woman.

Good, she’s giving it back to the lady, I thought.

But no!

Chancery held it up to the lady & said, “It’s mine now!”

She has learned the value of money, but perhaps we need to teach her a few things about manner yet…

Hunger Games -Review

This weekend, PChad & I went & saw Hunger Games.  We had both read the books, & were eager to see how they adapted them for the movie.  While I was reading the book, I was interested in what the people of Panem would have seen on the televised version of the Games.  I went to the movie with that in mind.

hg

I was quite pleased with how well they stayed with the book.  There were some parts (like how Katniss gets the Mocking Jay pin) that were different, but it was understandable that  it would take too long to show how it came about in the book.  The cornucopia was not gold (as it was in the book), & I’m not sure why they wouldn’t have made it gold, but I could look past that as well.

I was a bit confused about some of the casting as well.  I thought they did a pretty good job with Katniss, Peeta, & Gale.  Katniss’ Mum, & Prim, & Rue were all excellent along with the other tributes.  I’m not sure why they felt they needed to put Lenny Kravitz in as Cinna, & Woody Harrelson seemed an odd choice for Haymitch.  I think the movie itself was strong enough that they didn’t have to go with big named people for these roles, as long as they got good actors, as was demonstrated with the three main characters.

There were a few scenes from the movie that I wish had been longer.  The part where Peeta is down by the river hiding in camouflage, we barely get a glimpse of him, & in the next scene he has removed most of his camouflage.  I wonder how many hours make-up worked on him, for a 5 second shot in the film.  I understand the movie was already 2.5 hours, but I was a bit disappointed with that scene.

All in all, I was very impressed with the movie, & I’d love to see it again.  It will definitely be added to my list of movies to buy!

Chancery: “Why do you want to put stickers in that book, Asher?”

IMG_7550

Asher: “Because then I can look at them whenever I want to… unless it gets lost again!”
