Night Vision

Asher & Chancery were commenting on how dark it was outside around 4 pm the other day…

Chancery: “It’s dark outside.”

Asher: “Yes it is, Chancery.”

Chancery: “We need to have a flashlight so we can see if we go out there.”

Asher: “Not if we are candle people.”

Me: “Wouldn’t a candle person get burned?”

Asher: “No, they only have fire on their heads, & it doesn’t burn them because it’s the Holy Spirit!”

Me: “Oh, you mean like when the tongues of fire came down at Pentecost?”

Asher: “Yes!  I want to be like that so I can see in the dark!”

Me: “Well, I’m not sure that it helped them see in the dark.”

Chancery: “But it was fire on their heads, so they could see!”

I guess we’ll just have to add that to the list of things we need to ask God about someday…

Define: Forklift

As I was loading Chancery into the truck yesterday, she told me, “I know what a forklift is, Mummy!”

“Oh?  What is it then?” I asked.

Chancery: “It’s a lifter… with two forks on it, of course!”

IMG_6407Chancery: “I don’t think that’s going to work, Asher.”

IMG_6408

Chancery: “Have you tried putting your foot in instead?”

IMG_6406

Asher: “Yes, but that’s boring…I thought the snake might like to snuggle in it.”

IMG_6409

Chancery: “But then when you put your foot in, the snake will bite it!”

Asher: “Good point, Chancery!”

Step By Step

I don’t know how they do it, but it makes me wonder how long they had to practice to get it just right, & how many times they bonked into each other…

I’d never be able to do it!

No Fun

On the way to school this morning, Asher said, “I wish I could go to where you teach math today, Mum.”

Me: “You get to go to school instead, & you will have fun there!”

Asher: “I don’t have fun all the time at school though.”

Me: “You get to play with your friends, & learn things, & play outside.  Those are all fun things.”

Asher: “I don’t like to play in the courtyard though.”

Admittedly, the courtyard is no fun.  Asher’s school currently has 2 different school together on one campus.  The Kindergartens have recess in the inner courtyard which has a sheltered picnic table, dirt, small patches of grass, & little else.

Chancery: “You don’t have fun because you hit the kids there?”

(Asher’s been having a bit of trouble keeping his hands to himself.)

Asher: “That’s not the real reason.  Guess again, Chancery.”

Chancery: “Because you want to play on the playground instead?”

Asher: “Yes!  That is why I don’t have fun at school.”

Party Crasher

As we pulled into the driveway the other day, I noticed a box sitting on our front steps.  Yumi had been waiting for a package from her Mum for a few weeks, so I knew she’d be glad it had finally arrived.

“Oh, Yumi’s package finally came in the mail today!” I said.

Asher: “I want to open it for her!”

Me: “No, you can’t do that.  It’s not nice to open someone else’s mail.”

Asher: “But I want to!”

Me: “Then I’m going to open all of your birthday presents.”

Asher: “I won’t invite you to my party then!”

I Got Sucked In!

Last night, I put the kids to bed a bit early since they had missed their naps.  We usually read a book in Asher’s room, & Chancery was trying to climb up into his bed, while Asher was pushing her away.

I told Asher that he had lost the privilege of having a book, so I prayed with him & then left the room.  After reading to Chancery & getting her settled in, I heard Asher asking for his sheets to be tucked in.  I went & tucked them in, but told him that if I heard him talking again, I was going to take his buddy away.

A little while later & heard Asher saying, “Please, Mummy, can you read me a book?  I didn’t even get to read one book today at all.  Please can you read to me?  I promise I’ll be good!  I just want one little book, because I didn’t read any books today at all!”

I felt bad.

He went through a whole day without having a single book read to him…

How can I expect him to have a love of books if he didn’t even read one today?

So, I went up, & told Asher that I would read him a little book, but he had to promise to go right to sleep afterward, & to behave properly in the future.

He promised, I read, he went to sleep…

I told PChad later that night about the long process of putting Asher to bed.  When I told him about the book, he was quite surprised that I got suckered into it.  I think Asher may have found my weakness…

Asher: “Is it a banana?”

Ka-Boom!

I found this video of a dam being taken out, online.  I though it would have been really cool to have been there while they were doing it, but it’s also really cool to see the time lapse at the end.  It’s nice to watch it all in 2 minutes!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Spot

I was telling PChad at dinner the other night, about my recent trip to the grocery store with Chancery.  Whenever we go, we have a few places in the store that we always have to stop; the live lobster tank (so Chancery can say hello to her ‘friends’), the courtesy desk (so she can say hello to Miss Marcella), & the 1/2 off rack (so we can choose some discounted goodies).

Lately the 1/2 off rack has been a bit disappointing.  It has been stacked high with day old, 12 grain bread, & donuts that I know from experience are better left on the rack.  It’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen the likes of cakes & cupcakes on the 1/2 off rack.  So, I was telling PChad that on Monday, I found they had moved the discounted cake products to the refrigerated section.

Chancery piped up to add to the story…

Chancery: “And I spotted them there!”

PChad: “Good spotting Chancery!”

Chancery: “Yes, I spotted them with my cool eyes!”

I should have had her on the look out a long time ago!

Good Shot!

Asher was reading the story of David & Goliath out of the kids’ Bible after dinner the other night.  Each time we turn the page, he looks at the picture first, then starts reading.

He read that David was headed out to meet Goliath, turned the page, looked around, & said, “Whoa, good shot, David!”

He’s so affirming!

Crime & Punishment

I went to the park yesterday with the kids, & met up with a friend there.  The kids were playing, & we were chatting away, & I saw Asher hit Chancery with  a stick.  I told him to come, & he hit her again for good measure before coming over to where I was.  I told him to have a time out on the bench, & he said, “But Chancery hit me too!”

So, I called Chancery over, & I asked her, “Did you hit Asher?”

Chancery: “Asher hit me!”

Me: “I know he did, but did you hit him as well?”

Chancery: “I don’t know!”

Me: “Chancery, did you hit Asher?”

Chancery: “I don’t know, because then you will punish me!”

IMG_6381

Asher: “Because I have so many things to show everyone, Chancery.”

IMG_6382

Asher: “…and my stuff is wicked cool!”

IMG_6384

Asher: “And here is my eraser on my pencil!”

IMG_6386

Mighty Neighbourly!

As I was putting Asher to bed the other night, we had the following conversation…

Asher: “Mummy, when I grow up, can I sleep in your room, in your bed with you & Daddy?”

Me: “No, when you grow up, you’ll have your own room like that to sleep in, with your wife.”

Asher: “Well, if Katie’s (the neighbour) house is for sale, I think I’d like to buy it & live there.  Then I’d be right next door… in case I need you…  And then we would be neighbours!”

Halloweeeeeen!

This year, our house was a zoo.  We had a panda bear & a giraffe wandering all about the house.

IMG_6373

We also upped the activities to include a gourd carving…

IMG_6369

The kids had a great time trick-or-treating, & even though PChad didn’t take them out for very long due to time constraints, & the chilly weather, they got more than enough candy to last us the year!
